Apple Bootcamp function allows Mac users a way to install different versions of Windows natively on a separate partition on your hard drive. But when Windows is installed does not have the ability to resize the partition - or do you?
This article explains how to change the size of the Bootcamp partition in a few tedious steps. Continue reading for a detailed set of instructions.
Bootcamp is a very cool feature introduced in the new Macs after Apple decided to change previous Motorola processors (PC) for the new Intel.
With bootcamp you can install different versions (one at a time) to function either dual or Mac fertilization software like Ovenware Fusion or Parallels Desktop start.
Bootcamp Wizard is very easy to use (like most Apple software). It explains in detail what to do and when to do it short - so go ahead and take it for a test. But beware - Once you have decided on a new format of the Bootcamp partition on your local hard disk, it is almost impossible to resize bootcamp partition.
Follow these simple steps to do it anyway - without losing data in Bootcamp partition.
1 Download Wince
Wince is a program designed for Macs Make and restore an image of a Windows partition. It is very simple and is completely free. Get it here.
2 Make a picture of the existing Bootcamp partition
Log Wince and select your Bootcamp partition the Source drop-down list. By clicking "image" in the lower right corner, you can select where to save the image. It's a good idea to use a USB hard drive that requires the same amount of free space on your Bootcamp partition.
Wince now not magic (select "View Log" for more details).
3 Delete the current Bootcamp partition
Now that your Bootcamp partition resides on your USB drive, you can delete the existing Bootcamp partition. This is done simply by launching the "Bootcamp Assistant (the same as used in the first place to get Windows on your computer).
Select "Create or delete the Windows partition" and restore the disk to partition.
Exit the wizard and reopen.
4 Add a new resize bootcamp partition
Now it's time to create the new Bootcamp partition. Make sure you do it big enough this time. When you are satisfied with the sizes of the partitions (move the cursor left or right), press the "partition".
The new Bootcamp partition is created.
Click "Quit and Install Later" and Bootcamp Wizard will come out.
5 Reset the previous Bootcamp partition
Now again open Winclone. In the tab at the top select "Restore." In the dialog box "Select image", select your previous Bootcamp partition USB hard drive (or wherever you placed it). In the "Destination" field, select your new partition Bootcamp.
Click "Restore" in the lower right corner and let its magic Wince (may take some time depending on the size of the partitions).
Completed
All that remains now is to check that your new Bootcamp partition works as it is supposed to. Restart and check.
